As new nutritional supplements come along, despite the hype that inevitably follows, please, please, please simply apply standard Nutrition Response Testing basic and advanced procedures, based on your training level, to their use. Listen to their data, be educated by it, because there’s usually some really good data in it. But test the patient. Use the knowledge they give you about their products just like you use the knowledge of all the other products that we use, but don’t buy the hype. Realize that a lot of what they are saying is true, but it doesn’t mean it’s true for everybody. It’s true for the people that test well for it.
We’re blessed with a system of testing which removes us from having to decide who to believe based on marketing. This is so important. To give an example, I’ve heard many times about the incredible miracles of the PEMF (Pulsed ElectroMagnetic Fields Therapy) mats. Now, I happen to know from personal experience using PEMF mats since 2014 that they create incredible miracles. But guess what? I have people who do not muscle test well for a PEMF treatment! But when they do, man, do they get results!
You could use the PEMF mats, for example, on a protocol of starting with a given level, doing a few treatments, then going to the next level and then at some point the patient says, “Wow! That was a fantastic treatment!” When I use it, I muscle test directly and I find the exact treatment that gives the exact result at the exact right time and it’s a miracle. I kind of like to specialize in miracles. It’s just a thing at my age, I don’t have time to wait for the miracle, I’m going to cause the darn miracle.
The thing is, we have the testing procedure that tells us how to best utilize all these things. Products either test well on any particular case or they don’t. What I like to do is always start with the softest, easiest approach for the patient as I test them. If I test someone and they test strong for Zymex II, I might proceed with Zymex II, or I might just go, “I wonder if this other product tests better,” and I’ll give the body a chance to tell me. You can test these products and see which one the body likes the best, and if it does, expect some miracles.
Now, miracles are not always overnight. The ones you hear about the most are the overnight miracles. There are miracles that take 6 months to happen! With the patient saying, “Nothing’s happening, nothing’s happening…” And you test them and you say, “Well, it’s still testing strong.” Your patient management skills are going to be put to the test on this. Because if you buy into the hype that this stuff is magical, which it almost is, and then the patient doesn’t get immediate results but they’re still testing for it, you’ve got to be able to say, “Don’t worry about it, we’re moving forward, everything’s going fine.” If you use your standard testing procedures you’ll know if it’s working or not regardless of the patient saying “I ain’t getting any results doc. When are we going to get to work?”
Our testing procedure effectiveness is only limited by our knowledge of products that handle the present situation. But it is the testing procedure. So, I beg you, that while I may say “Hey this is a great product line”, do not abandon prior products and just fall in love with the new. Because you’re going to miss cases. Don’t fall in love with the product. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve fallen in love with the newest products and then forgotten about the standard ones. And then 6 months later I’m wondering why I have a handful of patients that aren’t getting better. And then my wife will ask, “Did you try the Standard Process product?” “Oh! Standard Process! I forgot all about that!”
