"A chiropractor set the stage for my career by curing my dad of an 'incurable' sports injury when I was still a very young boy. My dad became a 'chiropractic zealot' and his enthusiasm caught on—with family, with friends, with any visitor who had a health problem. Dad knew they would each experience incredible improvements after only a few chiropractic visits, and he was right.
"He wouldn’t be right today, though. Adjustments don’t hold like they used to. Why? Are chiropractors less skilled than they were in 1965, less well equipped? Quite the contrary. The state of the art has advanced dramatically—except in one area: the reason why those adjustments aren’t holding like they used to, the sad nutritional status of today’s patient.
"You can’t deduce what the patient needs from symptoms. That’s the medical model—which fails nowhere more dramatically than in our arena. In the century since D.D. Palmer (the founder of chiropractic) taught, we have made dramatic advances in chiropractic technique, while abandoning the most fundamental things we need to know to get a patient well."
In 1910 D.D. Palmer wrote:
'From baby in the highchair to grandma in the rocker, the axial bones are as liable to be displaced by noxious substances which enter the system in our food and drink or by inhalation as they are by accident direct.'
'Bones displaced ever so little by poisons impinge upon sensitive nerves, conveyors of impulse, thereby augmenting or decreasing functionating.'
(The Chiropractor’s Adjuster – The Science, Art and Philosophy of Chiropractic by DD Palmer)
And that is what disease is.
"Knowing all this, what shall we do about it? Why not quit giving improper food? Undo the wrong done, replace the vertebra, allow the function of the nerve to functionate normally.
"Medical treatment has become symptom suppression. Chiropractic has been reduced, in the public mind, to pain management. So where can anyone turn for real healing?
"In 1991, I couldn’t find a satisfactory answer, and almost died as a result. Internal weaknesses, toxicities, and imbalances traceable to a steady diet of adulterated food were literally killing me. No wonder my adjustments didn’t hold—and my pains and multiple body dysfunctions became resistant to my colleagues’ most excellent efforts.
"In the end, it was up to me, with the help of my wife Dana, to bring myself to life.
"I set about to complete my education in nutrition and the diagnostic methods that were available in 1991, including Applied Kinesiology in its many variations. We found so many deficiencies that it seemed I would choke to death on vitamins if I didn’t bring my pill count under control. This drove me to develop our current methods of dosing.
"My adjustments started holding again, and, with the reduced and corrected subluxations, my health started to return. I took on a few patients, working out of a good friend’s chiropractic clinic in a small town where I didn’t know anybody. A few became handfuls, and handfuls soon became hundreds.
"Now I have taught this system to literally thousands of like-minded practitioners. I don’t have a special 'knack.' Our advanced graduates have the same tools I have, and they get the same results.
"I developed Nutrition Response Testing out of personal necessity. I bring the work to you out of compassion for a population that has been cheated, as I was, of its natural health and vigor. We have the answers now. Let’s get them into widespread use and get America healthy."
