"At the 2009 Symposium, Dr. Ulan mentioned the upcoming 'Model Clinic Status' as a future goal for all practitioners to reach. He said this model clinic includes proper communication with patients, including very specific skills to use in communicating to patients. I decided to implement these as fully as possible as soon as I got back to my practice.
Additionally, Dr. Bryman helped Symposium attendees by giving us a refresher on bedside manner and Dr. Kristiansen reminded us on proper patient care during follow-up visits.
A follow-up phone consultation with Peter Buckles, my UNS consultant, also helped me with application of drilling the new skills I had learned at the Symposium.
Back at my practice, my staff and I started by drilling these specific skills to bring people in and to keep them in. Just by setting aside 40-minutes a week for drilling, for the past 3 weeks, we have all gained the ability to apply these skills very well. We like that the end product of implementing this is that your patients will LOVE you.
Yesterday, we got our stats for the last week and we had a record-breaking week, smashing the old one by almost 20 patient visits! We saw 265 patients in our normal 4 day week!!
Upon careful analysis of why the numbers might be up…
I considered that maybe the holidays might have something to do with it, but history has never shown great numbers before Christmas and in the prior year we had a scary crash beginning in mid December that lasted until we got it fixed by March. Also, our next three weeks into the future are uncharacteristically busy and we have an exceptionally high number of new patients on the books for future. As a matter of fact, this week we had 16 new patients scheduled whereas we have averaged 8-10 weekly all year. Our income was the second highest ever. The highest ever was actually due to a gimmick - the bailout special from last year. We have no specials going on right now. Actually, our fees are higher.
That being considered, it is simply amazing to realize that the successful action which led to these incredible wins was the 120 minutes of drilling we did as a result of what we had learned at the Symposium less than a month ago.
I've thanked you before but now, in a new unit of time, I want to thank you again. As my office manager said, when we have our patient communication fully and correctly implemented like we were shown at the Symposium, we are unstoppable. We can spread like Starbucks! We're just beginning."
2010... watch out!"
